The ecosystem in and around Winyah Bay is an incredibly complex and diverse melding of many different types of smaller systems; freshwater rivers, saltwater creeks and the ocean, swamps and forest, beaches, mudflats and grassy savannah. All of these distinctly different areas combine their own characteristics and their own particular flora and fauna to make Winyah Bay a never-ending nature lovers delight.

Listed below, with pictures when available (Coming Soon!), are many of the most common types of ecosystems and their related plants and animals. They are listed in no particular order; part of the fun of our trips is the unpredictable nature of, well, Nature! As such, there are some animals and/or plants that are more likely to be seen than others, but at one time or another we have seen all of those listed below.
